A drug that can protect patients infected with Covid-19 has been discovered in the UK. According to the BBC, medicine can save the critically ill in particular.
The drug, called desamethasone, has been successfully tested by UK health experts at various stages. According to the BBC, the drug reduces the risk of death by 33 per cent for patients with venous thrombosis and 20 per cent for patients taking oxygen.
BBC - "Researchers estimate that if the drug had been available in the UK from the start of the coronavirus pandemic up to 5,000 lives could have been saved. Because it is cheap, it could also be of huge benefit in poorer countries struggling with high numbers of Covid-19 patients. About 19 out of 20 patients with corona virus recover without being admitted to hospital. Of those who are admitted to hospital, most also recover, but some may need oxygen or mechanical ventilation. These are the high-risk patients whom dexamethasone appears to help."
It is believed that medicines are easily available in other countries as they are cheap. This drug strengthens the immune system of the person who fights against covid.
The drug has been found to reduce the risk of death, but no vaccine has been found. Scientists have said that the vaccine will be discovered soon in December.
